QIMR is the highest ranked medical research institute in Australia*

"We have more than 500 scientists working on cancer, infectious diseases and mental health and complex disorders who are making their mark and making a difference by producing research with consequences."
- Professor Frank Gannon Director QIMR

With one in two Australians suffering from cancer during their lifetime, more than half of QIMR’s research is dedicated to understanding how and why cancers develop and to find better ways to prevent, detect and treat more than 14 different cancers including melanoma, prostate, colorectal and breast cancer.

QIMR has adopted a broad-based approach to research with the cancer research program including studies from basic mechanistic processes, to genetics, population health studies, the development of therapeutic compounds and the development of immuno-therapies.
